Canada Represent: BC Classic & Custom Car Show, eh!

BC Classic & Custom Car Show, HzEmall Customs, Car Audio, Custom Install, Show Cars

The BC Classic & Custom Car Show was last weekend, and since CarDomain hasn't covered very many Canadian car shows, I decided to make the trek to the Great White North to see what Canada's scene was all about ("aboot"). All-in-all I in was pretty impressed - those Canucks know how to build a hot rod! The show coverage will be live on CarDomain shortly, but for now, I have a bunch of teaser pics after the jump showcasing the car audio installs I encountered.

Install Update: 1969 Camaro by HzEmall Customs

HzEmall, 1969 Camaro, Custom Install, stock door panels

Tim over at HzEmall Customs has made some progress on the 1969 Camaro they're building out. The doors are done! The stock door you see above is pretty plain-Jane and just don't match the caliber of install HzEmall is putting together, so the stock panels had to go. The finished product below looks many times better than stock, and maintains the smooth flow that's taking shape at the hands of Tim & Co. Click the links to hop over to HzEmall for details and some step-by-step photos of the panels taking shape.

RetroSound's Model One is a Modern Classic Solution

RetroSounds, Model One, classic car audio, muscle car, restore, retro, old school, car audio

If you have an old school muscle car or retro-rod and you've tried to upgrade the audio system to something a bit more modern, then you're already familiar with your painful choices: either put the new radio in the glovebox, an underdash or custom-built console, or *gasp* cut the dash to fit a modern radio. Mounting a radio in the glove is fine, but controlling it can be complicated. An underdash shroud can look hokey if not done right. Custom built consoles can look really hokey if not done well. And cutting the dash... Well, for most that's simply NOT and option.

Old school radios use a shaft-mount system where the radio mounts from behind the dash panel and is secured in place using the shafts from the volume and tuning knobs. And sometimes the shaft opening is not a standard size, requiring even further modification to the dash panel. Modern radios use a standard DIN opening and requires a rectangular opening (approx 2" x 7") to accept a new radio.

But don't fret! If you want to respect your elder and maintain the classic OEM interior, better options are available! Take RetroSounds Model One radio for instance. I've seen a few modern shaft radio solutions, but this example is by far the most advanced yet. Get the details, pics, and check out some videos after the jump!

Project Car: 1969 Camaro Overhaul

One of the current projects in the HzEmall shop is a classic 1969 Camaro RS. We're re-doing almost every aspect of the car from the wiring to the upholstery, adding air ride, and dropping in an LS2/6 speed motor/tranny conversion. It's going to be quite an overhaul, but when it's finally complete, it will be well worth it. Here's our victim:

HzEmall, Customs, Morel, Zapco, Sony, Focal, 1969, 1968 Chevy, Camaro, RS, custom install, fabrication, demo car, show car, competition audio

We'll have some better pics for you when the job is done!

Center Console
When we got the car it had a GTO console in it, but I can’t even really begin to describe how poorly it was installed...it wasn't pretty. Anyways, it had to be fixed, so we added it to the list.

Here's the before (and yes, that is carpet wrapped around the front, and yes it looked like he trimmed it with a sawzall).

HzEmall, Customs, Morel, Zapco, Sony, Focal, 1969, 1968 Chevy, Camaro, RS, custom install, fabrication, demo car, show car, competition audio

Make sure to check out the rest of the build after the jump. You won't be disappointed!

Thumbs Up: DSE Electric RS Headlight Kit

Detroit Speed & Engineering headlight kit, vacuum headlight kit, 1968 Camaro, 1969 Camaro, mobile electronics, HzEmall

If you own an old school Camaro with an OEM vacuum headlight door kit system, then you know how troublesome the original equipment can be, and it will have to replaced in it's lifetime. Now, if you'r e doing a full restoration then you probably want your project to remain as original as possible, but if you're not, then every Camaro owner should check out this kit.
DSE (Detroit Speed & Engineering) makes this motorized headlight door kit for the 68/69 Camaro's with the vacuum-operated headlight door system. This kit replaces the vacuum motors with new electric motors making this a hassle-free, more reliable system. It was easy to install and includes very detailed instructions. The kit is extremely well built and should present years of hassle-free operation. We recently used one on our 69 Camaro project here at the shop and we give it a big thumbs up.

Check out a quick video of the headlight kit in action after the jump!
