Good-Bye Polk Momo, H-E-L-L-O Polk MM!
At CES, Polk had a new series of speakers on display designed to replace the outgoing Polk MOMO series (no 4x10 though this time, sorry old school Chevy guys). The new MM Series will sit just below the SR series in the Polk product hierarchy, and will offer great sound quality at a higher-end-but-affordable price point. These speakers should prove to be pretty popular with those concerned with adding weight to the rides and those with rear clearance and space issues in doors.
The MM series features a very shallow carbon composite basket design. The slim figure is further enhanced on the separates and coaxials by a small but powerful neodymium magnet, coming in at 2 inches shallower than the MOMO series! The MM midbass drivers on both the coax and components also feature a glass fiber cone that Polk claims offers improved sonic properties over last years MOMO already great sounding line. The tweeter will be of the silk-type, but no details were yet available.
We've got a lot of pics after the jump and the most recent white paper from Polk.
Thanks to Mikey B at Polk for the info and additional pics!
White Paper info:
Designed To Perform Introducing the new Mobile Monitor (MM) Series high performance loudspeaker systems, the next generation in mobile loudspeaker design. The MM Series features 18 new models, including 3 Ultra Marine designs, to fit virtually any application on land and water. The MM Series is composed of 6 full range systems, 3 component packages and 9 subwoofers. Borrowing technology from our flagship SR Series, the MM Series offers exceptional value for the price. Through the use of high-tech carbon composite baskets, powerful Neodymium motor structures using oversized voice coils, and state-of-the-art woven glass composite cones, we offer high-end audio performance normally found only in the most expensive loudspeaker systems. In addition, these space age materials offer weight savings that can mean higher performance for your car or boat.
