Boston Acoustics 2008 GT Amps: Redesigned and Sexier Than Ever
Boston took a good thing and made it even better with their new 2008 GT amplifier line-up. Last year's amps had a pretty sexy-but-simple design, but 2008 brings a host of upgrades, both inside and out. The chassis was redesigned, and now the amps sport a brushed aluminum exterior with removable black cast aluminum heat sinks that can be painted to match the theme of your install or car. The amps are cooled via thematically controlled cooling fans, allowing the amps to be safely mounted in any position—even upside down. One of the features any experienced installer will appreciate are the track-mounted feet which let you decide where to shoot your mounting screws. Boston also incorporated a very unique security feature inside of their amplifiers—a microchip with a 128-bit digitally encrypted serial number. Typically, when equipment is stolen from a vehicle, the thief will remove the serial number, but if this microchip is removed from the amp, it becomes a big expensive paperweight. The amps should start shipping in March and April. Full press release, pricing, specs, and more photos after the jump.
Boston Acoustics Debuts New Mobile Amplifiers
CES 2008, Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7, 2008—Boston Acoustics, a long time leader in premium auto sound components for aftermarket and OEM mobile sound systems, introduces a new range of GT Series of automotive power amplifiers at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The new GT Series designs boast a fully computer-controlled, digital-domain diagnostics system that continuously monitors and protects the amplifier in case of thermal overload, short circuits, or over-voltage. This precise management design allows higher power levels than were possible with earlier, analog-domain monitoring circuits by using the same sized chassis. In addition, the serial number is protected by 128-bit encryption, making its removal impossible without destroying the amplifier in the process. The new series is easily recognized by its bold Italian design, and incorporates favorite features such as forced-air cooling, which allows the amplifiers to be mounted in any position, even upside-down. Further, recessed RCA jacks, sliding mounting feet, and Boston’s signature low profile design make installation in tight confines a snap.
Each of the new models also features Boston’s exclusive DualMode™ technology, which permits safe operation into speaker loads as low as 1Ω in stereo or 2Ω in bridged mono, thus increasing amplifier utility—the GT models can drive subwoofers or full-range components with equal ease. Another proprietary feature, Q-Tune™, delivers user-adjustable “Q” for each amplifier’s onboard crossover filters. This provides substantial system-tweaking power, such as the opportunity to enhance bass impact from the front speakers without the risk of speaker overload. Wide-ranging input sensitivity (to 8.0V) extends compatibility to the widest possible range of head units, factory adaptors, and system preamps, while adjustable 12dB/octave high-pass and selectable 12/24dB/octave low-pass crossovers can be combined for bandpass operation where necessary, maximizing system-design flexibility still further.
Available in four power ranges, the new GT Series two-channel amplifiers are perfect for powering a single pair of “component-style” speakers or an array of multiple subwoofers. The GT Series four-channel models can power front and rear speakers or, because all GTs incorporate flexible bridging options, front speakers plus a subwoofer in an effectively three-channel layout—as well as many other layouts that simplify system design without sacrificing performance. The top model, the GT-5500, offers single-component, full-system versatility with five channels of power to generously supply the front, rear, and subwoofer positions of even a very-high-performance mobile system, all from a single, highly installable, space-efficient amplifier.
All GT amplifiers will be available Spring 2008.
