Tag It & Bag It
HD Radio has had a somewhat rough start getting the public to jump on board the HD bandwagon. Most people don't quite understand the technology or why they should pay for new hardware when they already receive commercial radio with the current equipment they own. Well, just like satellite radio, until you experience it, it's hard to explain how cool it really is. Not only do you get multiple radio stations within the same radio band, and near CD sound quality, but also artist and song info, possible traffic & weather updates, or news updates all on the display of the radio.
But if that wasn't good enough, the price for HD Radio hardware has finally dropped to an acceptable
level (~$150), which is SO much better than the $300 price point it launched with. However, this year HD radio stepped up the technology and the iTag feature, built into new Alpine IDA-X100 and IVA-W505 head
units. When combined with Alpine's HD tuner and an iPod, any time you hear a song you like on HD Radio, hit a button and it will tag that song onto your iPod. When you go home and sync your iPod, iTunes will display those songs so you can purchase them through the iTunes store. Not a bad idea considering how many times you hear songs in your car that you would really like to buy but forget until the next time you hear the song.

That is pretty cool... NOw that the price has finally dropped to a reasonable level, I may take a look at HD again. And that Alpine unit is TIGHT!

HD is overrated - the more HD stations a given broadcaster offers, the lower the sound quality. FCC regs require that one broadcast be "at least equal to" their non-HD broadcast.
