Crutchfield Gets smart
Crutchfield is the oldest and most successful car audio mail-order company in the car audio industry. Their tech support is pretty outstanding and their vehicle fitment information is pretty spot-on. However, what a lot of people don't know is that a lot of the vehicle measurements are actually made in-house, and the team also gets fully hands-on with the gear they sell.
Recently the tech team over at Crutchfield got their hands on a smart car, which are not yet officially available in the states, but the waiting list is so long you can guarantee these will be showing up everywhere. So to keep on top of things, the team had a chance to break one down and see what fits.
The team fitted a Pioneer AVIC-N4 DVD/Navigation with 7" flip out display, Pioneer XM Nav-Traffic, Bluetooth, and iPod adapters. The radio's flip out screen had a bit of trouble with the column-mounted windshield wiper stalk, but they had a quick remedy for that. To add a bit of bass to the seriously lacking OEM set up (only a single pair of 4" speakers for the entire vehicle), the team also added an 8" Bazooka bass tube. There's only one pic for the install (see above), but according to the
article, they'll post a complete feature in May. We'll keep you posted.
