JML Audio Opens New Facility!
JML Audio, the same guys that brought you the kickass Lexus IS300 and boomin' boat we covered not too long ago, have recently moved into a new state-of-the-art facility. I consider St. Louis my hometown, and in all my years living there and working in the car audio industry, I can tell you that nothing compares with their new facility. Joshua and crew pulled out all the stops when designing their new digs. The tools, the shop layout, it's all focused on providing the best possible experience for both the customer and the installer. The grand opening will officially take place in May, but they're still open for business and they welcome anybody who wants to come check out the new location. There's still a little bit of light construction going on, but as you can see from the pics that follow the jump, this place is ready to rock!

JML's new location as viewed from the street.
Welcome.
Step back into the install bay and prepared to be amazed. Although the shop was not fully open yet, the crew still takes in business. In front is the next demo car for JML, an Infiniti G35 coupe (Stay tuned for photos of the new build!).
The red tiled area is the customer walkway. Eventually a wall will be erected to the right in order to separate the customers from the noise and dust of the wood shop area (it's also a safety thing... Safety first!).
JML saves all templates used for various applications - speaker mounting plates, car logos, speaker grilles, subwoofer cut outs, as well as a number of shapes and angles. This saves time for future installs, and means their installs maintain a semblance and uniformity every time.
This monstrous creation below is the Clearview Cyclone Max dust collector with an 8" inlet. It's the biggest and strongest collector offered and makes sure the dust kicked up during fabrication will go in the collector and not on your car. This thing sounds like a jet taking off when it starts up (well, not quite, but it is impressive)!
During my time managing a car audio shop, we had two installer cut off their fingertips. It happens, even with the guard in place. JML's installers can take solace in knowing that it probably won't happen to them. JML invested in the most advanced table saw known to man (well, me anyway). This is a SawStop table saw. The saw has a built-in microprcessor and runs an electrical signal through the blade that can actually detect if it's cutting a finger rather wood. The blade will stop within milliseconds of detecting flesh, brake, and retract into the saw faster than you can yell "Holy $#!%!". JML's saw features the the 5hp upgrade and a 52" fence option (Check out the SawStop website for more details..they have video).
JML also fabricated a square steel tube table saw outfeed / material storage rack for the saw.
Another impressive addition to JML tool line-up is this beautiful C.R. Onsrud 500 SS inverted pin router. They also have three Porter Cable 7518 3-1/4 hp routers in their cache.
The difference is in the details.... How many times have you walked into an install bay to check out your car's progress to see the interior panels and screws sprawled along the floor or stacked up against a wall? You won't find that at JML Audio.... Each project has a dedicated shelf, and items like screws and ashtrays and other loose bits are placed in labeled bags. Panels and parts are neatly stacked here. Nothing is lost, parts stay clean and safe.
Tools are all centralized and provide easy access for each job. Ball bearings, rubber mats, and the finest tools an installer could hope for live here.
Does your shop have an RTA? For customers with discerning tastes and picky ears, JML can fine tune your system to your liking or perfectly flat, whichever you prefer. The O-scope can do much more than sound tuning though, and the pros at this shop can really get down and dirty with even the most complicated electrical systems found in many modern cars.
Installers have 8-foot work benches, task-specific tool carts, RTAs, and networked work stations with access to technical software, the interweb, and more. Modern tools for the modern shop.
JML also covers all wires in braided split loom, not plastic ribbed split tubing. The nylon braid looks sexier and is less bulky to work with.
Each installer work station features their own electrical and lighting source as well as individually regulated air lines. Each installer can adjust the PSI needed for their job. Each station has a pair of drop lights and 50' retractable air line, four stations in all. Above, track lighting provides spot lighting for each car and bench.
Here are two demo boards that will be used to display product. Truthfully these guys don't even really need these. They know their stuff and I would let them drop any product into my car they that think would work best.
If you live in the St. Louis area, make sure to stop by and check out their new facilities, you won't be disappointed. Also, just because this shop offers top of the service and start-of-the art facilities, amazing custom work is not all they do. If you're just interested in getting a new deck installed or slapping a new set of speakers into your hoopty, make sure you speak with them first. The quality of their labor is top notch, but their pricing is very fair and very competitive compared to other local shops. These guys work smarter and harder and in order to bring you the best. It all comes down to the statement on the back of Joshua Landau's business card:
"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten."
JML brings quality and customer service to the forefront of their business, dedicated to making a difference in the industry and establish a new benchmark in St. Louis. Make sure you check them out, you won't be disappointed.
