Mini Team Zapco Member Wins MECA Kids Shootout at SBN!
Team Zapco member Steve McIntyre has turned his passion for car audio into a family affair. Steve started out as an installer back in 1991, competed for the first time in 1994, and took second at the IASCA World Finals in 1995. I was invited to dinner with Team Zapco the final evening of SBN this year, and had the pleasure of meeting Steve and his family.
Steve and his 11-year old daughter Andrea (who is also a Team Zapco member) built this Jeep Powerwheels to compete in the MECA Kids series. The project took one weekend to complete, and has about as much gear as a regular full car audio system (complete system list after the jump)! Andrea helped her father build the car, shooting most of the brads for the subwoofer box, running wires, and painting the car.
All the work paid off too, as Andrea took home two first place trophies at the end of the weekend! We've got some pics and video of Andrea and Jeep Powerwheels after the jump.
The Jeep has has a pretty impressive system list:
- Alpine CDA-7843
- Two sets of Zapco i-6.2 component
- Zapco i-450 4-channel amp
- Zapco i-1200 mono-block amp
- Powerbass 2XL-12D sub
The car has made it to three shows so far, with SBN bringing in the best scores. Andrea took first in the Mk2 SPL class with a score of 140.1dB and first place in the Drive-by SPL Parade with a 122.8! Congratulations to Steve and Andrea for a job well done. We'll look for you in the lanes at future shows!

Last year was Steve's first full year of competing in quite some time. He competes mainly in MECA (Modified+ SQL and Modified Install) and has quite a list of accolades behind him. He landed best install at World Finals with a 94 out of a possible 100; took a first in Mod+ at SBN last year; won Mod+ and Mod Install at World Finals; finished the season as the national points champion and Tennessee state champion; placed 2nd in Pro Street at IASCA world finals, took 1st in five MECA competitions; competed in his first IASCA show at SBN, taking 2nd in Pro SQI. Quite an impressive list for one guy! If you're ever at a show keep an eye out for his Team Zapco silver Dodge Magnum.
We just got word that Steve is being deployed to Iraq tomorrow for a few months. SoundDomain would like to wish Steve and his family the best from all of us!
Congratulations again, Andrea!
