Boston's New Pro Series: Now Shipping!

Boston Acoustics Pro SE, Component Speakers

We gave you a preview of the new Boston Pro SE components back during our CES coverage in January, and now, ladies and gentleman, they have arrived. To commemorate their 25th Anniversary, Boston Acoustics released a new line of components, the Pro SE (Special Edition) series. Taking cues from their highly praised SPZ line, Boston took this design one step further to ensure the absolute best sound quality. The crossover's components for the SE series have an extremely low tolerance rating (1%!), and to maximize sound quality and accuracy, Boston upgraded the tweeter from the standard Pro series to the highly regarded Neo Type M tweeter from the SPZ series. The Pro SEs will be available in both 6.5" or 5.25" versions. More pics and specs after the jump.

Boston Now Shipping Sixth Generation of Its Legendary Pro Series
Pro SE Speakers Set New Performance/Value Benchmark

Peabody, MA, July 2008—Boston Acoustics is pleased to announce that the sixth generation of its legendary Pro Series automotive loudspeakers is now shipping. Introduced nearly two decades ago, the Pro Series has continually raised the bar for performance and value within the premium component speaker category. Taking cues from its flagship SPZ models, the Pro SE features an all-new industrial design that presents an aggressive, yet unified appearance that is all Boston Acoustics.

“The Pro Series was introduced in 1989 and is Boston’s oldest and best known speaker series. We thought it fitting to commemorate our 25th year of mobile electronics by updating this iconic speaker line blending past, present and future,” said Dave Jaques, Boston Acoustics’ Aftermarket Car Audio Product and Marketing Manager. “The new Pro SE accomplishes this with a bang and rounds out our impressive line of class leading, high-performance mobile loudspeakers.”

The Pro SE family is founded on key technology enhancements, such as the adoption of the unique tweeter from Boston’s famed SPZ flagship component speaker line. This compact 1-inch hard-anodized alloy dome neodymium-magnet driver, combines astonishingly accurate, extended, smooth, and coloration-free reproduction made possible by Boston Acoustics’ patented AMD™ (Amplitude Modification Device) technology. This superb high-frequency solution is perfectly matched up with our 6-1/2-inch or 5-1/4-inch mid/woofers to create the two Pro SE models, the Pro60SE and Pro5 60SE. These highly capable units combine exceptionally strong yet low-mass copolymer cones with neodymium-magnets, 1 1/2-inch voice-coil motor systems, and Boston Acoustics’ RadialVent® and TwinStage™ heatsink cooling system for unmatched linearity and dynamic drive, and impressive high-power capabilities.

Both Pro SE models include Boston Acoustics’ versatile VariMount™ system, which enables the speakers to fit the most common factory speaker locations with little or no modification: specifically, 130mm DIN, 165mm DIN and 5x7-inch locations, among others. Further, each features Boston’s removable axis-mount that allows the tweeter and woofer to be installed together in a single speaker location as a “coaxial-type” system, or separately in a true component-style layout using flush, surface, or angle mounting hardware, also supplied.

A critical component of serious mobile-sound performance, the Pro SE crossovers incorporate low-tolerance components throughout for impressive dynamics and enhanced power handling, and are engineered for outboard, component-style installation.  These unique crossovers feature Boston Acoustics’ patent-pending Separable and Dockable technology, which allows them to be separated for ease of installation or linked together for custom applications. Both the Pro50SE and Pro60SE deliver a nominal impedance of 3Ω, for maximum amplifier output and peak efficiency.

As a leading maker of high-performance audio components for aftermarket and OEM automotive audio (as well as home music, A/V, and custom systems) Boston Acoustics’ top offerings have long been established as the leading choice among car-sound aficionados who are as concerned with musical quality as they are with SPL and quantified performance.
