Directed Sells Off Precision Power

By: Ben Vollmer, Car Audio Nationals / Team SoundDomain

Precision Power back in the day made some of the finest amps ever, and I used to drool over them on a regular basis. The Art Series was one of the coolest looking amps and featured the ability to tap into the hollow areas of the top and bottom of the amp to run a water cooled system through it (which usually picked up some additional creativity points for competitors). Here is the A600.2, which touted 150x2 and was a benchmark back in the mid 1990's when it was released.

They have been in the Directed family of brands since Directed bought a/d/s several years ago, but times change, and again, so has Precision Power's owner.

The brand is now at Epislon Electronics, Inc, which already owns some well known 12-volt brands such as:

Epsilon Electronics acquired all branding rights and existing inventory. Warranty service for qualified product sold through the Directed Electronics channel will continue to be processed by Directed.

I hope that the new owners will return "PPI" to it's original sound quality roots. Ah, the memories.

Big congrats to David "Snakebite" Parhat for achieving MECP Master Technician certification! Orion's Colorado Gets A Makeover!

Orion HCCA, Colorado, Demo Car, Directed Electronics

You might remember this Colorado from its debut two years ago at SEMA.... It sported the first (as far as we know) rotating subwoofer enclosure. Since it was making it's debut at the SEMA show in Vegas, the rotating woofers were meant to resemble a slot machine. It was an insane idea, and it slammed like crazy. Now the guys have decided to give the truck somewhat of a rebirth, sending it down to have world-class installer Calvin Thomas a shot at the beast. He loaded the Colo full of HCCA woofers, amps, and speakers in a very clean, very loud custom install. Follow the jump to check out our gallery and audio system list!

Orion Cobalt Yukon Flexes A Little Muscle

Orion Cobalt GMC Yukon Demo Car

My buddy over at Orion just sent me a few pics of their newest demo, a pimped GMC Yukon, to celebrate and show-off the all-new Cobalt line and serve as a mobile demo for HD Radio. The new Cobalt line was first introduced during CES 2008 back in January, and features great look and sound for not a lot of dough. The Yukon's install features a pretty elaborate box and amp rack in the rear hatch, and can pound out the lows! Keep your eyes open as this truck should start making rounds through the show scene and stereo shops soon. If you've never had an opportunity to experience the CD sound quality of HD radio on a killer sounding audio system, then keep an eye out for this Yukon!

Check out a small gallery of the Yukon and the install after the jump!

How To: Motorcycle Alarm Install

Directed Electronics, Motorcycle Alarm Install, Security, Motorcycle Theft

To some, motorcycles are just really expensive toys; to others they're a main mode of transportation and a cherished pride and joy. Whatever it is to you, it's probably a good idea to make sure it's protected. Motorcycle theft rates increased over 135% in the last five years, but the saddest part is that only around 30% of the thefts are recovered. In 2005, approximately 70,600 motorcycles were stolen in the US.* Hopefully one of those was not yours.

However, all is not lost. Did you know you can actually install an alarm system on your motorcycle that offers similar protection to that of a car alarm? Shock sensors, tilt sensors, siren, starter kill - all of these things can help prevent the theft of your bike. It may also help reduce your insurance rate.

So what's involved and how difficult is it? The guys from the Snake Pit hooked us up with a tutorial on how to install an alarm on your bike. Follow the jump to check out the details and pics.
