Hot Off The Presses: New JBL GTO Subwoofers!

We recently announced the new JBL Power Series amplifiers and Power Series speakers, and now we have more good news! JBL has just announced a new GTO subwoofers line. The woofers definitely look the business - great looking baskets, beefy cone and surround, and they're priced very affordably! JBL Toon Truck

I first saw this 1950's pick-up back in 1994 at Disney's Epcot Center in one of the Innovations Buildings. I was mesmerized - there were speakers everywhere! It was this truck that inspired me to become a professional installer.

Flash forward to 2008: I met a Harman rep by the name of Joe Walters. During our conversation he mentioned an old 1950's truck he helped build for JBL. Sure enough it was the same inspirational truck from my youth. The truck has been retired for a long time, but it has a great history.

The Toon Truck was built in 1993 for as a display for the Innovations Building at Disney's Epcot center. After It later left Disney and headed to Berlin, Germany for the IFA electronics show (similar to our CES show).

When its tour was complete in Germany, the truck was shipped back to the US but was not properly secured in its shipping crate, and the the "wheel" subwoofer enclosures were damaged....

Video: Russian JBL Demo Truck or Mobile Nuclear Reactor?

I don't know who produced this, or who to give credit to, but this Russian JBL show truck, the "Sound Cruiser", is insane. This might give the Power Acoustik truck we wrote about a run for its money!

After a little research, it looks like this truck debuted maybe sometime around late 2005/early 2006. The "Russian Sound Fleet" guys took an International hauler and loaded the back with one of the most insane JBL sound systems I've seen. The HUGE Crown/JBL amps mounted to the side panels are stunning, but the rotating subwoofer enclosure is downright evil looking! It looks like they've got some sort of nuclear reactor strapped to the back!

Video: Radio Install in a 2004+ Premium Sound Toyota

If you have premium or JBL sound in your 2004+ Toyota, then you've probably been told replacing your radio is more expensive or complicated than a standard Toyota. And if you haven't, well, now you know. The amount of in-car gadgets controlled by computers increases every year, and now even your car stereo is part of the data network. The factory amplifier in new Toyota vehicles is actually turned on via a data signal rather than a standard 12-volt signal. Until recently there was no easy solution for adding a radio to the car other than bypassing the factory amp and rewiring the factory speakers directly to your new radio. Thankfully Scosche has developed a solution for these complex systems, and now swapping a new radio is straightforward and simple. Just check out the video below!

New JBL Amplifiers are LIVE, too!

I just hopped over to JBL's website to see if they launched the new Power series speakers on their site yet, and they have. But what I also found out is they launched the new amplifiers as well! We got a sneak peak of these at CES, but again, weren't allowed to share. But now we've got the pics available after the jump!

I have to hand it to JBL this year. They have a really clean and simple design... No pointless cosmetics or gimmicks, just a clean design to compliment the clean sound. Check out the details and pics after the jump!
