Car Audio Mag Future Feature: Audible Excellence

The car is an increasingly complex extension of your person and, especially if you're into car audio, it's an extension of your house -- often I'm on my couch listening to and evaluating music or watching a movie; pretty much what I do in my car! Of course, for some, for brief periods of their lives (very brief, one would hope), cars ARE their homes. The car isn't just about getting from A to B or individual expression, it's about a high level of functionality as well. Just as the mobile phone is basically an add-on appendage stuck to your ear that connects you to everyone else, the car is like a robot you wear that cocoons and connects you to everywhere. Car Audio has always been about SQ and custom cars. And it's also about the evolution of the automobile from a mode of transportation to, well, a giant gadget on wheels. That being said — look at the Mercedes C230 Sport seen here, built by movie sound engineer Gary Summers and the guys at Kustom Kar in Santa Rosa. This is a great example of a true SQ vehicle. It's one of the best sounding cars we've featured in the mag. The article also really gets into how Gary tunes the car.

New Morel Elate Limted Edition

Morel released info on their new Limited Edition Elate system. The LE system is designed for those with a passion for perfection (and a large wallet). The woofer features a carbon fiber composite sandwich cone and "enhanced magnet system" for improved power handling and improved frequency response. The system also includes a redesigned version of the amazing MT-23 tweeter offering improved frequency response, soundstage, and accuracy. The LE's crossover features true audiophile components and impressive flexibility. The 3-way system has an MSRP of $2499, and the 2-way will set you back $2199.

Project Car: 1969 Camaro Overhaul

One of the current projects in the HzEmall shop is a classic 1969 Camaro RS. We're re-doing almost every aspect of the car from the wiring to the upholstery, adding air ride, and dropping in an LS2/6 speed motor/tranny conversion. It's going to be quite an overhaul, but when it's finally complete, it will be well worth it. Here's our victim:

Center Console
When we got the car it had a GTO console in it, but I can’t even really begin to describe how poorly it was installed...it wasn't pretty. Anyways, it had to be fixed, so we added it to the list.

Here's the before (and yes, that is carpet wrapped around the front, and yes it looked like he trimmed it with a sawzall).

Morel Ultimo 10: Actual Pics from SEMA!

A few days before SEMA, we posted the press release announcing the new Morel Ultimo 10, so I made sure to stop by their booth and snap some shots of this new and absolutely stunning subwoofer. Sorry these photos aren't the highest quality—my good camera got stolen the first day of the show!
