XM's New Portable, Codenamed: Phoenix

XM Radio, Portable, Pioneer inno, Phoenix

The super sleuths over at Orbitcast have got the inside word on XM's next portable, set to replace the inno and and SkyFi. The new device is codenamed "Phoenix" and although pictures are not available yet, hopefully the good 'ol FCC will offer some insight pretty soon. Here are some of the details Orbitcast was able to get their hands on:

  • Slightly smaller than the existing inno
  • Will have a better GUI than the inno
  • Will have a rotating wheel similar to the SkyFi2
  • Has a MicroSD slot so you can bring your own MP3s along with you
  • Internal storage space may be increased, but no details on how much
  • Larger than the inno, but with a similar antenna
  • Should be here in the fall (which is pretty common for all new satellite devices as they want to hit the X-mas rush)

We'll keep you posted as more news comes to light (and hopefully a leaked image because, in case you hadn't noticed, I photoshopped the above image!).

XM Radio, Sirius Radio, iPhone, Satellite Radio

Ever since I got my iPhone, I've wanted a way to listen to the service on my phone. I always have it with me, but I don't always have my Stiletto2 or inno. I thought maybe I'd be able to use the online listening platform to stream Sirius to my phone, but Apple decided not to give the current iPhone Java support, so that's a no-go. However, all is not lost. XM is currently working on an iPhone application to allow online streaming, and there's a application under development for Sirius that will allow streaming for Jailbroken iPhones (not an official Sirius application).
