Scions make up a large majority of the tuner cars over at CarDomain, and I probably see one at just about every car show I attend. So I wasn't surprised when I came across Newport Autosound's Scion xB at the Pioneer Sound Build-Off. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I checked out the install. Not because it was over-the-top or extreme (as most would expect to see in a Scion). No, I was surprised at the clean, simple and elegant design.
Newport used the factory locations for the Premier basalt-impregnated woofers, but mounted the tweeters in custom a-pillars, wrapped in a suede material to add a touch of luxury to the econobox. The front stage looked great, but it was the rear hatch area that really shined. The team fabricated a floating sub box, inverting the Premier woofers to show off the awesome motor structure and basket. The amps were flush-mounted into the xB's floor and highlighted with white LEDs that shined down from the suspended woofer box. The team also picked up a few extra points by cosmetically pulling together then interior theme, using the same colors and materials throughout the entire install front-to-rear.
