Something a Little Different: Custom Sub Box

SoundDomain member SubNit picked up a pretty powerful combo to add a bit of lows to his van: a 12" Kicker Solo L7 and a ZX1000.1 to power it. Not wanting to go with a standard off-the-shelf box, SubNit and a few friends set out to build a custom box that would suit his needs and be a better fit for his van. After some MDF, a bit of fiberglass resin to seal it, and loads of RamMat to deaden the interior, the crew built an impressive ported box that fires up into the seat bottom. The box is pretty beefy and appears to be solid, but what I really dig is the custom art added to the front of the box. We've seen quite a bit of custom paint pass the pages of SoundDomain, but nothing quite like this!

How Not To Wire Your Speakers

The guys over at Elemental Designs hooked us up with a video explaining (as the title suggests) "How Not To Wire Your Speakers". Wiring subwoofers is probably the number one topic to be repeated in the SoundDomain forums, both as a how-to topic and a troubleshooting topic. So to help clarify matters, the eD guys put together this short video.

SoundDomain Show-Off: Andy Jones

We recently added the SoundDomain Show-Off section to our Forum Family, and it's slowly being populated with pics from SoundDomain members who want to show off their installs or get other members' opinions. Once a month we'll pick a privileged SoundDomain member from the Show-Off forum to feature in the blog.

After going through the posts, we decided that none-other than SoundDomain moderator Andy Jones and his 2007 Nissan Altima deserved the spot. Why? Well not only is he one helluva helpful guy in the forums, his car's install is pretty darn amazing. So much so, that Andy took home 2nd in MECA Modex+, and earned the first place trophy in the Car Audio Nationals One Seat Class.

Spring Break Nationals: On the Streets

As impressive as the cars were inside the show, some of the coolest cars I spotted were actually on the streets in Daytona Beach. Coming back from lunch on Saturday, we spotted this huge custom monster truck in our rearview and just had to get a better look. I got a kick out the brief message painted onto the back window: "14.2 mpg".
